The ancient town of Nesso is made by picturesque groups of houses scattered on the mountain slopes and along the lake: in his surroundings we remind the hamlet Careno, a pretty village in the shape of inverted triangle made of stone houses clinging to the mountains and crossed by steep steps passable only on foot. Due to these characteristics is one of the most photographed lake villages.
Among the characteristic features of Nesso we remind the church of Saint Peter and Paul, who stands in the middle of the country, and the church of Saint Martin in Careno, dating from the twelfth century.
One of the most famous scenery of Lake Como is the Orrido di Nesso, a picturesque waterfall formed by two streams which unite into one thundering mass of water and plunging among the rocks, passes beneath a Roman bridge in walking distance thanks to a beautiful staircase.
For nature lovers, do not miss a visit to the Grotto Masera, on the slopes of the mountains behind the village: it is 400 meters long and inside it there are a small lake and a large lounge with imprints of ammonites.
