Torno
|
Torno is located in a beautiful position on a promontory and is characterized by the typical features of the medieval village: narrow winding alleyways, houses with stone doorways with wrought iron decorations on the windows.
In the village are: the beautiful church of Santa Tecla, thirteenth-century Romanesque building altered several times, with a beautiful marble facade decorated with a Renaissance portal and a rose window and the church of San Giovanni, the oldest in the country, with a strong Romanesque bell tower.
You can climb from the town, following the old path that winds through the woods, to Montepiatto (610 m.): its houses are inhabited only in summer or on holidays, from the courtyard of small church there is a fine view over the lake. In a meadow near the village in you can admire the pietra pendula, mushroom-shaped boulder balanced on a rock.
