 Verbania
|
Verbania was born in April 1939, when they were put together the two towns of Intra and Pallanza.
The name derives from that of Lake Maggiore, which is also called Verbano.
Verbania is a treasure of art and culture, which offers its visitors in many shapes: religious architecture includes beautiful churches including the Oratory of San Remigio, the church of the Madonna di Campagna, and the Basilica of San Vittore, dedicated to the patron of Verbania, who is celebrated each May with a procession and the evocative ceremony of the blessing of the lake.
In Verbania, moreover, there are the beautiful botanical gardens of Villa Taranto. Made by Scottish captain Neil McEacharn who in 1931 bought land for building an English garden on Italian soil. He imported from around the world dozens of botanical specimens, until its completion in 1940. The gardens include specimens of some 1,000 plants and about 20,000 varieties and species of botanical interest.
