Lake Lugano is also called Ceresio, and its surface is divided between two states: about one third of the lake is located in Italy, the remainder is in Switzerland. Particular situation is that of the town of Campione d'Italia, a small Italian enclave surrounded by Swiss territory.
The lake has an oddly branched shape and irregular coasts: it was excavated by alpine glaciers, it reaches a maximum depth of 288 meters and presents more or less the same scenery of Lake Como, with small villages and green valleys, but also modern and charming towns and touristic resorts. |
