 Peschiera del Garda

Just in the area of Peschiera comes out from the lake the river Mincio: the construction of the walled town of Peschiera, surrounded by water, has changed the natural course of river. To allow the defense of the city were built three points out of the lake, which meet in the south of the town. Thanks to its unique geographical position linking the Alps and the Po valley, Peschiera has played a role in the history of major importance.
The two main attractions are both the result of the military: the fortress called Rocca, built by Mastino II Della Scala, and the Palazzina del Comando del Presidio, remembered mainly because in its halls the Italian army, after the defeat of Caporetto, decided to organize a new defense line on the river Piave, during the First World War.
Just a couple of km towards south, near the pond of Frassino, is worth visiting the Shrine of Our Lady of Frassino, founded in 1511, to venerate the Virgin that would have manifested, through the miraculous disappearance and reappearance of a statue, Her desire to have a place of worship in the area.
