Folklore lake Maggiore

A miscellany of cultures meet in the land of Lake Maggiore.
The story also made of bitter battles, labor and sacrifice, has designed the landscape and its communities.

Between folklore, tradition and culture, communities of the lake and surrounding valleys now relive those moments in their history, celebrating rituals and festivals.
Sounds of ancient chants, gestures of traditional crafts, historic costumes and delicious flavors, return to enliven streets, alleys and courtyards.

Among the historical figures linked to Lake Maggiore, certainly the most important is St. Charles Borromeo, born in Arona in 1538 and died in 1584. In 1563 he was ordained priest and soon consecrated bishop, he participated in the last stages of the Council of Trent became one of the biggest promoters of the Counter Reformation and subsequently became Archbishop of Milan. In the years of his episcopate, from 1565 to 1584 he devoted himself to the diocese of Milan building new churches, schools and colleges, engaged in the pastoral visits, supervised the drafting of important rules for the renewal of ecclesiastical costume. When he died he left all his wealth to the poor.
