Claino con Osteno is a town formed by many small hamlets, among which the main two (Claino and Osteno) were chosen to form the name. The hamlets of Osteno, Righeggia and Rescia are located on the lake, while Barclaino, San Lucio and Claino are in elevated position and overlooking the lake with a beautiful view of the shore of Porlezza and Valsolda on the opposite side of the lake.
Among the monuments to remember, the Church of Santi Pietro e Paolo, in Osteno, of Romanesque origin, but altered in the sixteenth century, and the church of San Vincenzo, in Claino. But the most interesting parts of the town are created by nature: just before the town of Osteno there is the Orrido, which is a narrow gorge where there is a picturesque waterfall, and not far away there are the Grotte di Rescia, caves formed by the natural tufa deposited by limestone spring water: inside you can admire many formations including stalactites and stalagmites. They are now a private property, but you can still visit them, demanding the keys to the custodians of the nearby camping area.
