The Lake Iseo or Sebino is the fourth largest lake in Lombardy.
It has as its main tributary and outlet the River Oglio. It has an area of 65 km2 and a maximum depth of 251 meters. The lake is situated at 180 m altitude, in the heart of the Alps, at the end of the Camonica Valley.
At the center of the lake is the largest natural lake island in Europe, Monte Isola, surrounded by the two small islands of Loreto and San Paolo.
The lake Iseo area is unique and valuable: its territory is still mostly intact, and offers the possibility to discover interesting corners and unspoiled landscapes. One of the most spectacular and surprising point is the territory of the town of Zone, where there is the Regional Reserve of the Piramidi di Erosione, that is huge columns of earth topped by larger boulders that protect the column below the erosive action of water. |
