Lake Iseo, small and wild, is one of the most fascinating and romantic landscapes of Northern Italy.
On its banks lie the small towns that tell the history of these lands through the Romanesque churches and abbeys, castles, ancient fresco cycles and intact old towns.
But history and art on Lake Iseo are accompanied by the beauty of nature: fascinating landscapes characterized by green mountains, framed by the clear waters of the lake. And in the middle of the lake, Monte Isola, the largest lake island in Europe, a jewel set in the blue.
The western Coast of Lake Iseo is part of the Province of Bergamo; the landscape encloses corners of incomparable beauty and shows different types of landscape.
From Sarnico, the southernmost town, climbing towards Predore, there are stretches of beach, often crowded with tourists. Further north the landscape becomes wild with cliffs and rock outcrops (there are the spectacular gorges of Castro and Zorzino), which are interrupted only by small delta formed by the torrents coming from the valleys, where rise the bordering towns. Only somewhere, in short spaces that are well exposed to the sun, appear vines and olives, the rest is rock.
The eastern shore is included in the Province of Brescia: this area has a varied landscape, characterized by the lake and the surrounding mountains, cultivated with vineyards, orchards, olive trees and flowers in the lowest areas, rich in chestnut woods at the top.
