With its large territory, Desenzano overlooks the southern shores of the lake.
Despite the town has now expanded, the old town still spread around the old port surrounded by historical buildings like the Palace of the Superintendent and the former Town Hall, both of the sixteenth century. In the upper part of the town stand the ruins of an ancient castle with a square tower, while also interesting is the church dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene, built in the late fifteenth century and was remodeled at the end of the next century. The area of the lake is beautiful and well maintained, pleasant to stroll among the stalls of the many markets. But the heart of Desenzano is older and it only takes a few steps to find out: not far from the church, in fact, the excavations conducted in 1921, have unearthed the ruins of a Roman villa built between the second and sixth centuries AD. Of the original building remained some mosaic floors, which suggests that the building was a noble home.
