The town comprises two different villages very close and of similar size: one, Nago, on the slopes of Mount Altissimo and the other, Torbole, that, with Riva del Garda, stands patrolling the northern summit as a border or a port: is here, in fact, that travelers from the North Adige Valley have their first impact with the nature and the landscape of the lake. Palm trees and oleanders, after rocks and peaks, are an unexpected advance of the Mediterranean.
How many centers of Lake Garda, Torbole also retains its picturesque harbour; it is interesting the Church of St. Andrew, founded in 1175 and rebuilt in the Baroque period, from the churchyard where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the lake. Well worth a visit to the Austro-Hungarian fortress of Nago: it is perhaps the best preserved of the Trentino, and today houses the municipal museum. For trekking enthusiasts, there is a beautiful scenic path, on the balcony of Lake Garda, Torbole connecting the village to the hamlet of Tempesta, a former border between Austria and Italy.
