The name of Limone reminds all visitors of the picturesque village the lemon fruits that really grow here: the city guide says this is the most northern village where these fruits grow.
In fact, the name probably derives from an ancient voice 'limo', 'lemos', which means elm, or from the Latin 'limes', that means the border, between Brescia and the jurisdiction of the bishop of Trent. Until the 40s the town was isolated and accessible only via the lake or through the mountains. The construction of the road (completed in 1932) broke this isolation and has led a remarkable development of tourism in the area.
