Monte Isola is the largest lake island in Europe: it is in the middle of lake Iseo and contributes with his profile rising from the waters, to the magical atmosphere of the lake. The name Monte Isola reminds us its mountain nature: the top of the island is in fact at 600 meters altitude. The highest point is the shrine of Madonna della Ceriola, built in 1500: it can be reached via different paths, and it offers a unique view of the lake and of the Val Camonica.
The eastern side of the island is very steep and generally rocky, whereas the opposite western slope down towards the lake with a gentle slope, where olive trees grow: here we can see as the vegetation of the island is extremely interesting, as ranging from Mediterranean plants to typically alpine trees. On the island it is forbidden the access to motorized transport and the tourists can reach the island via ferry: even this peculiarity makes it a special place, where you soak in the calm and relaxation.
