The village lies on the western shore of the lake, opposite Bellagio and the mild climate and its wonderful location have made Tremezzo a resort famous all times: to this is due the presence of many luxurious villas and parks. The imposing villas and grand hotels, which arose from the eighteenth and nineteenth century onwards, along the shores of this lake area has long been a place of Tremezzo make international tourism.
Besides the beautiful church of San Lorenzo, the town offers magnificent views; the most famous monument is certainlyVilla Carlotta, built around 1690 by the Marquis Giorgio Clerici. Today the villa is fully open: inside there is a collection of sculptures and paintings of neo-classical era, including works by Antonio Canova and Berthel Thorvaldsen. The upper floor has remained intact: here you can still find the furniture and furnishings that belonged to the last owner of the villa, Georg II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, husband of Carlotta in who the villa is named. The duke Georg was the architect of the magnificent park that surrounds the villa, where, thanks to the exceptional climate of this part of the lake, you can admire a botanical heritage of over 500 species.
