Dervio is located at the mouth of Valvarrone and is divided in two parts by the river that, flowing down from the valley, has formed over the centuries a vast and verdant plain with a large delta before entering into the waters of the lake. Currently the town is divided into four hamlets: Borgo, the old fishermen's village, Villa, in a higher and panoramic position, Castello, where you can still see the remains of a fourteenth-century tower and signs of ancient towers and Corenno Plinio. The latter is one of the most characteristic village of Lake Como, and there is a massive castle, built in the second half of the fourteenth century by the noble family Andreani, landowners of the site: currently it is one of the defense works best preserved among the many lots on the banks the lake. Dervio is characterized by narrow streets and stone houses, and there are charming churches, like the one dedicated to Santi Quirico and Giulitta, from the Romanesque period, and that dedicated to Santi Pietro and Paolo. But Dervio has also a nice beach, panoramic hiking trails and many opportunities to practice different sports.
