The town of Colico is the last of the eastern shore of Lake Como and is surrounded by a magnificent scenery of mountains. Colico is the largest town in the northern part of the lake, and offers its visitors many opportunities for recreation and entertainment.
The beautiful and wide beach is always windy: Colico is the ideal place for windsurfing and kite surfing; thanks to a nice walk you can reach the river Adda, where lies the Nature Reserve of Pian di Spagna, an ideal place for nature lovers. In Colico there are also two fortress, Forte Fuentes, built during the Spanish rule and whose ruins remain, and the Forte Montecchio, dating back to World War I and still working. A few kilometers from downtown, near the hamlet of Olgiasca, lies the picturesque Abbey of Piona, where you can visit the beautiful Romanesque church and cloister, and where the Cistercian monks who live in the abbey sell the products of their garden.
