Renowned tourist destination, Locarno enjoys a favorable microclimate that allows the subtropical and Mediterranean vegetation to flourish, partly because the city lies in a valley protected by a ring of mountains.
Among the major monuments of Locarno, the remains of the Visconti castle (XIII-XV century), marked by crenellated walls dovetail. Inside there is the civic museum and archaeological heritage, best known for his collection of Roman glassware, this section is flanked by rooms reserved to prehistoric times, crafts, the pre-Roman and Roman coins, but to morals and porcelain. Also, worth a visit is the Collegiate Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, inside which there are precious marble altars and a casket containing the remains of the saint to whom it is dedicated, and yet, the Church of San Francesco, solemn and wide, which has been reconstructions over the centuries and looting. In Locarno takes also an important film festival, which takes place every summer, and which sees the participation of actors and directors of international renown.
